The President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell says she was disturbed to hear about a 13-year old being found in possession with what Police have described as a pistol that fires blanks.
"This is very disturbing. We have had cases similar in the past and now another case. I am very proud of the mother who took immediate action by confronting her son and also contacting the Police and informing them of what she had found.
"Some parents may be hesitant to take such action against their child, but if you have the best interests of your child at heart, you will do what is right, and this parent did exactly that.
"I pray that the parent and her son can get help from community institutions, and let this challenge in their lives lead to better things to come. Young people are confronted with all kinds of things from peer pressure, violence etc., and as a society we need to do what is necessary to keep them away from the negatives while educating and informing them on how to keep on the right track," President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell said on Monday.
According to the Police, on January 21, a woman came to Philipsburg Police Station and spoke to the Community Police Officer (CPO) for the Cay Hill area with respect to her 13-year old son who was in possession of a gun.
When the son came from school his mother confronted him about the situation and demanded that he hand over the gun. Initially he refused, and after a short struggle, she managed to take away the pistol from him.
The gun and other items were confiscated for further investigation. The CPO visited the home of the 13-year old on several occasion but he was not there at the time.
