Minister Lake requests NV GEBE to open branch offices for its customers in different districts

On Wednesday Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake forwarded a letter to NV GEBE Managing Director Romelio Maduro requesting the utility company to look into opening several district payment/customer service offices.

The request comes after observing long lines of people standing outside NV GEBE offices in Philipsburg and Simpson Bay.

Minister Lake would like to see payment/customer services offices opened in Cole Bay, St. Peters and Belvedere.

A copy of the letter has also been forwarded to the newly appointed board members Kelvin Bloyden, Chairman of the Board of Supervisory Directors of NV GEBE; Veronica Jansen-Webster and Zylena Bary.

"The lines of NV GEBE customers standing out in the hot sun and rain at times shows that additional payment/customer services offices are needed in other districts. In going back to basics, it’s about providing the best services to your customers. Offices located closer to the people in the districts will benefit the disabled as well as our senior citizens.

"By cutting down on the thousands of customers who have to drive to NV GEBE office in Philipsburg and Simpson Bay to pay their bills, it would have a positive influence on relieving traffic and parking congestion.

"At the same time, workers who have to leave their jobs to stand in long lines won’t have to do so anymore. This would also benefit productivity in a business, because if an employee is out of the office spending hours in a line then the business loses money.

"And it is also not nice for employees to spend their lunchtime break standing in long lines to pay utility bills. The customer is King as they always say, and additional NV GEBE offices in the districts would benefit the company’s customers," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Wednesday.
