Prime Minister Meets with Dutch Second Chamber Representatives

PM: It is my task and my job to ensure that the position of St. Maarten is very well represented

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams met with the eight-member delegation of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament Committee for Kingdom Relations at her Cabinet late Friday afternoon. The delegation, which is in the Dutch Caribbean as part of the Inter-Parliamentary Consultation of the Kingdom, discussed various items with the Prime Minister, particularly following up with items discussed with the PM during her visit to the Netherlands in November. The delegation is comprised of Committee Chairman Jeroen Recourt, Committee Registrar Tim de Lange, Wassila Hachchi (D66), André Bosman (VVD), Gert-Jan Segers (CU), Roelof van Laar (PvdA) Ronald van Raak (SP).

Prior to the meeting the PM stated that during my recent visit to the Netherlands she made it a point to ask for a meeting with the members to discuss various issues; "I have put forward facts about St. Maarten during these meetings but still am amazing that members would take information from disputed sources that misrepresent our country. We have our challenges but it is unfortunate to hear how St. Maarten has been represented. It is my task and my job to ensure that the position of St. Maarten is very well represented and that all misrepresentations are disputed," stressed the Prime Minister.
