Renovation police office Bonaire reaches highest point

On Wednesday December 11th , 2013 at 12.00 hrs. the highest point of the expansion and renovation of the Police Office at Bonaire was reached. This festive moment was celebrated by hoisting the flags on top of the building by the Chief of Police Hildegard Buitink, Fleur Lagcher (interim director RGD) and Willy Mennen (Cdt Brigade Caribisch Gebied KMAR). In a short speech, the Chief of Police thanked amongst others, the contractor,

subcontractors and construction workers.

The expectation is that the remodeled Police Office can be used as of midst 2014. The Royal Military Police (Koninklijke Marechaussee – KMAR) will also be located in this building; and for that reason, the KMAR flag was also hoist next to the KPCN flag.

The expansion and renovation of the Police Office executed by the Central Government Building Service (Rijksgebouwendienst) on behalf of the Ministry of Safety and Justice (Veiligheid en Justitie – V&J). The project has a long history. In 2007 the expansion of the Police Office started, under the guidance of USONA. Because of a number of reasons, the construction stopped at the end of 2009. The Kingdom Building Service picked up the project again in the midst of 2010. To comply with the modern criteria for climate, security and ICT-facilities changes were made in the design. In the end of 2012 the decision was made to add an extra floor on the existing building to accommodate the KMAR as well. Furthermore, the expansion of the building resulted in a larger space for a joint monitoring station (meldkamer) and adaption to the constructive criteria that are required for an extra floor on an existing building.

The construction of the Police Office is prepared by the architect’s office Jacobs N.V. and E&A consultants. The construction is executed by Bouwmaatschappij Bonaire N.V., and subcontractors Garnet for the electrical installation and W. Trapenberg for the climate installations.
