PM: "I would like to congratulate the School in celebrating offering the much needed service to education and the development of minds to the community of St. Maarten"

The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams congratulated the Sr. Borgia School on their 35th Anniversary which they celebrated on the 4th of November.

"I would like to congratulate the Sister Borgia School in celebrating its 35th anniversary in offering the much needed service to education and the development of minds to the community of St. Maarten," stated Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.

According to the school’s website, the Sr. Borgia Elementary School has served the St. Maarten community in a number of very important functions as far back as 1910 when the oldest section of the school was added to 2 existing houses that were being used as a hospital. During the Second World War the building was used as barracks for the Civil Guards, officially called "Schutterij" and in 1946 The Sweet Repose, a home for the elderly was established. After this, the Pastoor Nieuwenhuis MAVO was established until 1976 and in 1978 this building was converted into a primary school for Catholic Education, known as the ‘Old Pondside School’.

The Sister Borgia School is named after Ms. Charlotte Johanna Wilhelmina Linskens, born on November 1, 1912 in Holland. Her convent name was Sister Borgia. Sr. Borgia and she arrived on St. Maarten in August of 1964 where she was very much involved in the development of education of St. Maarten.

"The Sister Borgia School has been so important in the community of St. Maarten and I would like to congratulate them again for her achievement," concluded the PM.
