Dept. of STAT to start Second Business Cycle Survey October 28

The Department of Statistics (STAT) will conduct the second Business Cycle Survey for Year 2013, starting Monday, October 28. The data collection will run through December 13, 2013.

This survey is conducted twice a year with the purpose of collecting up-to-date information on business and economic developments for industries, particularly in the non-financial sector.

Additionally, STAT seeks to capture the current opinions and expectations of entrepreneurs as it pertains to business confidence, the investment climate and competitiveness.

The survey will be conducted among all businesses with more than ten employees, and a sample is drawn for those businesses with three to ten employees.

STAT-trained interviewers will be distributing and collecting the questionnaires from these businesses; they will also be on-hand to provide any additional assistance that may be required.

Businesses can also expect questions on the level of their turnover, investments made, their personnel situation over the year 2013 and general expectations for the upcoming year 2014.

STAT is appealing to all businesses approached to cooperate with the Business Cycle survey, as the private-sector input is essential for its success.

By means of this information, STAT will be able to produce amongst other indicators, preliminary GDP estimates of 2013.

These key statistics are needed for the benefit of both the government and private sectors, in their decision-making.
