Women’s Soccer Association congratulates all women’s soccer players on Sint Maarten

"Oualichi WST is turning one year on the 13th of November"

The Oualichi Women’s Soccer Association is proud to see that soccer has grown amongst females on the island. The Women’s Soccer Association wants to thank all women’s soccer players for helping to realize the goals of the Women’s Soccer Association.

Founder and president of the Oualichi Women’s Soccer Association, Ms. Danae Daal, wasn’t surprised the sport would grow so big in less than a year. In 2012, amidst much skepticism, Oualichi WST opened the doors for women by pushing through with the establishment of a movement to establish and improve the opportunities for women’s soccer on the island. While at that moment there were no teams on the island, Dutch and French, The Oualichi Women’s Soccer Team was founded in 2012 and the Women’s Soccer Association was established in 2013 in order to make sure there would be continuity in women’s sports in the community.

The Women’s Soccer Association board and newly established events committee is represented by an all-female team. In one year time Sint Maarten has now grown to have four women’s team. Three of the teams, the advanced team, the U20 team and the girls team which will start training in November, are under the auspice of the Women’s Soccer Association, which is also affiliated with the Sint Maarten Soccer Association and CONCACAF/ FIFA. Oualichi has played in various tournaments, representing Sint Maarten in Anguilla and St. Barths and played in the Futsal competition. By now both sides of the island have had two female competitions taking place. Also the Women’s Soccer Association, with the help of the SInt Maarten Soccer Assocation and Concacaf, was able to send a female player to go for coach training in Aruba this year. "When we organised our girls summer soccer clinic we understood the necessity to have a platform for girls to do sports which in turn fosters confidence, discipline and girl power. The girls deserve as much attention for sports as males do and that is what keeps us going" said founder and president of the Women’s Soccer Association, Ms. Danaë Daal. The team will be celebrating its one year anniversary on the 16th of November and will hold a celebration in which many women in the community are invited to participate in a fun day celebrating the sport of soccer and the one year existence of Oualichi WST.
