BRIDGETOWN, Barbados – West Indies and England will come face-to-face in a mouth-watering clash as the Women’s T20 International Tri Series continues at Kensington Oval on Friday night.
These are two of the leading teams in the world and both are locked at the top of the points table on four points – West Indies beat New Zealand on Monday night, while England beat New Zealand on Wednesday night.
West Indies captain Merissa Aguilleira will be playing her 50th T20 International for the regional side and is eagerly looking ahead to this "special" occasion.
"It’s all up to us. We have been playing well as a team and we will look to continue with that momentum when we play England. We did a great job on Monday when we fought back to get over New Zealand and we believe we can continue to build on that when we come up against England," Aguilleira said.
"England have always been a tough side and we saw that from the way they played against New Zealand. We have a good record against them on our home turf and we will look to protect that record."
Aguilleira: "The players all understand what we have to do – we have done it before… it is early days in the tournament but there is no room to be complacent. There is always room for improvement and we will look to win as well as improve.
"As a team and as individuals we have to understand our strength and our weaknesses. We have been working hard to get better…we aknow exactly what we have to work on and turn those weaknesses into strengths."
West Indies fought back to win their opening encounter by 23 runs. When they batted they slipped to just 33-3 off 10 overs but Deandra Dottin made a mature 52 off 50 balls to lead a recovery. They then bowled out the White Ferns for 81. Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed had the remarkable figures of 4-0-12-5 to win the Player of the Match award.
Looking ahead to her 50th match, Aguilleira said: "It is always good to lead from the front. I am looking forward to the match and as always I will look to guide the team and do my best for West Indies cricket."
