President Arrindell calls on youth to join St. Maarten Youth Parliament

The St. Maarten Youth Parliament is looking for new members to continue the programme of young residents learning about civic leadership.

President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell is calling on the nation’s youth to consider joining the Youth Parliament of the country.

"A youth parliament allows for young people to have a voice. Young people must have a forum that would allow them to discuss issues that are of importance to them. The youth parliament allows them to do this and at the same time the young people learn how parliament operates," President of Parliament Hon. Gracita Arrindell said on Wednesday.

The new participants in the youth parliament will also represent the country in next year’s Kingdom Parliament sessions.

The youth parliament will also have a live debate in the General Assembly Chamber of the House of Parliament on August 12 regarding the merits of investing in technology.

The youth parliament is open to young people between 12 and 24. Members debate public policy and host forums for discussions about social and youth issues.

Bi-weekly meetings are held on Fridays at 5.00pm in the conference room at the House of Parliament.

Interested candidates can contact St. Maarten Youth Council by calling 550-8971 or emailing: sx****************@ho*****.com or visiting ‘St. Maarten Youth Parliament’ Facebook page.
