Discusses Hurricane Forecasting and Disaster Coordination
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams held a meeting with the Interim Director of the St. Maarten Meteorological Department Mr. Joseph Isaac at her Cabinet on Tuesday. The Prime Minister received an update on the functioning of the Meteorological Department and the forecasts related to the Hurricane Season, including the possible weather associated with the passing of Tropical Storm Chantal well south of St. Maarten.
Prior to January 2013 decisions with regards to inclement weather were previously by her office upon consultation with the Met Office in Curacao and the Office of Disaster Management on St. Maarten. However since January the St. Maarten Meteorological Service will be issuing weather information and updates.
The Prime Minister, as Minister of General Affairs, is the Minister responsible for Disaster Management and coordination on issues of inclement weather including hurricanes is done through her Cabinet, the St. Maarten Meteorological Service and the Office of Disaster Management ODM.
