"To all the women that are here know it is our light and not our darkness that makes us shine."
During the Women with Purpose Global Summit currently being held on St. Maarten/ St. Martin, Anguilla and St. Barths the Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams encouraged all women to realize their full potential and to recognize their purpose in life; "You are here with a purpose and that purpose is to contribute both to our own personal growth and that of the community around us," stated the Prime Minister.
The PM also had the opportunity to enlighten the summit of very powerful and influential women on what it means to be involved in a strenuous political career, and how one measures power as a woman; "How do we measure our power as women? With a sharp mind and inner and outer beauty that reflects peace from within. There are women who make a difference and who can improve their surroundings just by showing up and I urge you to be one of those women. There are women who change the world everyday like each and every one of you. Our island has a fascinating history and has been shaped continuously be the efforts of strong women, as can be exemplified by the traditional name for the island Oualichi: Land of Strong Women.
"I was born on St. Maarten to an Anguillan mother who had to travel due to her being a domestic worker. The women of Anguilla and St. Maarten were and are the rock and the pillar of the land and I encourage you to break out that power from within: it is our light and not our darkness that makes us shine.
"My country St. Maarten; a young nation is only being recently exposed to the stages of democracy and we have since 101010. How do you measure power in a broad sphere such as politics? I measure my influence through being true to myself and keeping my feet on the ground. Always remain true to yourselves and what it is that you stand for. We should have the desire and passion to change the world for ourselves," encouraged the PM.
The Women With Purpose Global Summit is a five day gathering of multi-cultural women who represent the accomplished professional who has achieved at the highest levels, the business-savvy woman who is looking for what’s next, and women with a passion for professional growth and personal development. At the highest level, this Summit encompasses industry experts, media giants and 300 professional women from various professions from around the globe.
