Prime Minister Wescot-Williamson Second “Emergency Meeting” of Four Caretaker Ministers

Personally I think it was a bluff; they wanted to see how far they would have gotten with this but I am sure that they also full well knew that what they were doing was not correct nor was it right and had no basis in the law"

The Prime Minister the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams on Friday made brief but strong comments regarding the so-called emergency meeting which was held by the four Caretaker Ministers on Tuesday afternoon. The Prime Minister, Without going into allegations that the meeting was akin to committing an illegal act, decided to explain some of the facts surrounding the much contended and discussed meeting.

"What we have with that particular meeting; the meeting that was apparently again called to dissolve parliament; was in fact a transgression of every rule in the book, especially the Rules of Order of the Council of Ministers. You simply cannot have the Deputy PM calling a meeting of the Council of Ministers; that is the prerogative of the Prime Minister. Again the issue came up with a majority of Ministers to so-called dissolve Parliament. However, all processes and Rules of Order were overruled during the meeting. I used the word that the way that this came about was nothing short of insanity.

"Personally I think it was a bluff; they wanted to see how far they would have gotten with this but I am sure that they also full well knew that what they were doing was not correct nor was it right and had no basis in the law. For example: who took the notes during this meeting? It is the Secretary General who records the meeting but this was not the case. I also do not know where the meeting took place; I received a letter by the Caretaker Minister that it would have taken place in the AC Wathey Legislative Hall but I was in a prior scheduled meeting with a Rotary Club delegation at the time when the meeting was to take place so I am not sure when or if a meeting actually occurred.

"I have also not received any documentation from the meeting and again; it is the Prime Minister who schedules the meetings, makes sure that the Rules of Order are adhered to, sends documents to the Governor and I was not involved in any of that so yes, in my opinion that meeting was indeed a bluff," concluded Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.

The Caretaker Ministers Marlin, Tuitt, Jacobs and Pantophlet submitted their letters of resignation to the Governor His Excellency Eugene Holiday on the 21st of May.
