Meyers Commends Middle Region and Defiance Communities on Initiative

I would like to use this opportunity on behalf of the UP parliamentary faction in parliament to commend the Middle Region and Defiance Community Councils in taking the initiative of having their own community day on June 23.

The UP thinks this is a great initiative in bringing communities closer together. The wish of togetherness and belonging leads to create a community as a whole. A sense of community is important to establish peace and harmony among the society.

The feeling of association, togetherness, and cooperation helps to establish a healthy atmosphere filled with unity, harmony and friendship. This is very important for every district community to harness the resources of its people in connection with nation building.

The Councils would like to organize a number of activities on that day and therefore have requested certain streets to be closed from 9.00am to 8.00pm. Some of the activities planned are the selection of the fastest man and woman, egg and spoon race, wheelbarrow race and a sack race. The highlight of the day will be the annual basketball knockout for junior and senior players of Middle Region and Defiance.

There will be food and drinks on sale entertained by music from various DJs.

This activity will be a family day event and I encourage all residents of those areas to come out and I also encourage visitors and residents from the other districts to come out to the Middle Region/Defiance Day on June 23.
