Harbour Crane Personnel Continue to Upgrade Skills

St. Maarten Harbour Crane NV, part of St. Maarten Harbour Group of Companies, hired over the last nine months three new Crane Operators and a Crane Maintenance Manager. 

This expanded the existing team of three Crane Operators, a mechanic assistant and an admin support to a total of nine employees.

The trainer Achilles Van Cauwenbergh of Global Port Training (GPT) based in Antwerp, Belguim, gave a refreshment training to the three existing crane operators and full training to the three new up-comers and the Crane Maintenance Manager between February 6 and March 18.

GPT handles all certification training on behalf of Gottwald and offers tailor made solutions.

GPT specializes in launching new maritime activities and/or companies. The company also delivers a full concept in which the link is established between academic knowledge and daily practice.

On Monday, March 18, all new crane operators and the Crane Maintenance Manager received their certificates after successfully completing their training and the three exciting operators a renewal of their certification obtained in 2009.

A number of developments are taking place with the cargo sector including the expansion of the Panama Canal which is slated to open in 2015. In order for the country to be able to attract new business and retain that new business, personnel must be able to provide services in an efficient and professional manner, and therefore the importance of having the right expertise in-house.
