The United States Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency Larry Palmer left here Wednesday after a brief visit.
The Barbados-based official who arrived in Basseterre on Monday night met Tuesday morning with St. Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Health, the Hon. Marcella Liburd and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Mr. Andrew Skerritt, to discuss the Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector (SHOPS) project.

Ambassador Palmer met Tuesday afternoon with newly-appointed Governor General His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence and the Federation’s new Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett, before paying a courtesy call on Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.
The visiting United States diplomat said he was pleased to have met with the new Governor General and new Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He said he had extensive discussions on numerous topics with Sir Edmund. Mr. Palmer felt the Hon. Patrice Nisbett was an excellent candidate for the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs as he has had previous engagements with him in his former capacity as Attorney General and knows the importance of the several issues of mutual importance.
Ambassador Palmer and Prime Minister Douglas discussed several issues including the recent elections in Barbados and Grenada and the just concluded 24th Inter-Sessional Caribbean Heads of Government held in Haiti.
Also discussed were USAID’s assistance to St. Kitts and Nevis in the area of health, renewable energy including the geothermal project in Nevis.
