Reminder to Residents & Stakeholders to 2nd town hall meeting about Hillside Conservation Areas

Residents and stakeholders are reminded about the second town hall meeting regarding hillside conservation areas for Thursday, February 21 at 7.00pm. The meeting will take place at the University of St. Martin (USM).

Attendees will be informed about the proposals from the Ministry with respect to zoning that also includes Geneve Bay area, Emilio Wilson Park, Belvedere Plantation, building possibilities, road network, cultural heritage, and public facilities.

The Ministry would like to get the public’s follow-up views and ideas as it pertains to hillside conservation areas especially after the first public meeting was held back in April 2012.

The preservation of hillside conservation areas are to take into account landscape and scenery, ecology, cultural heritage, recreation and tourism. The objective is to protect certain areas from development pressure. Development that will be allowed will be based on rules for density, height and excavations.

The Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure (MinVROMI) is developing the legal framework for possible future development; to designate and/or reserve land for desired use; to prevent uncontrolled development; and to offer legal security to residents about future development.

The meeting is part of process of drafting of "development plans" for country Sint Maarten.
