Prime Minister Decides to Close Schools for Friday as Precautionary Measure;

Fire Dept./Office of Disaster Management Conducting Situation Assessments; Emergency Services on Full AlertDue to flooded streets, debris that has washed unto the public roads, and clean-up efforts that need to get underway, as well as the potential and uncertainty for more rain showers on Friday morning, the Prime Minister has decided that schools should be closed on Friday as a precautionary measure.

The Fire Department/Office of Disaster Management (ODM) and the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Development, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) will continue to conduct preliminary assessments of the various districts throughout Thursday night.

Emergency services will continue to monitor the situation as the night progresses and respond to any emergencies. Several roads in low lying areas were closed Thursday night as a public safety measure.

The Fire Dept./ODM with respect to Friday morning advises the population of the South side of the island to be cautious while driving especially those driving along hillside roads as the potential exist for rock falls and small landslides.

Thorough assessments of the public schools will be carried out on Friday.
