Country under a Heavy Rainfall Watch until Friday 6.00pmThe Fire Department and Office of Disaster Management (ODM) has been notified by the Meteorological Department of Curacao (MDC) that the country has been placed under a heavy rainfall watch until Friday 6.00pm due to heavy rain showers.
The Fire Dept./ODM therefore advises the population of the South side of the island to be cautious for possible flooding in low lying areas, street flooding and rock falls due to possible persistent heavy rainfall.
The following areas are of concern to the Fire Dept. and residents are asked to avoid these areas during heavy rainfall which causes severe flooding and inundating the areas: Dutch Quarter main road; A.T. Illidge Road; L.B. Scot Road; Zagersgut; and Welgelegen Road.
If you do not have to be on the road, remain at home. If you have to go to work, wait until heavy rainfall subsides, and drive cautiously.
The MDC Special Bulletin was issued on Thursday at 5.30pm. The heavy rainfall watch is issued when heavy rainfall is evident within a certain timeframe.
The current watch could also be upgraded to an advisory or warning in case conditions warrant according to the MDC.
The MDC also advises in the case of lightning strikes very close to your location, switch off and disconnect any sensitive electronic equipment; disconnect your telephone and your computer.
