St. Maarten soccer team Telstar travelled to Curacao last week to participate at an international Futsal tournament (indoor soccer).

The tournament was organized by Prisiri, a soccer squad from Curacao, and co-hosted by the police force of Curacao. St. Maartens longest existing soccer club, FC Telstar, was invited for the second time to participate at this prestigious tournament.

In this ‘A’ class tournament FC Telstar was placed in a pool with the RST, Curacao Police and Prisiri were games where performed at a very high level in a socially competitive environment.


Title holder FC Telstar performed well but didn’t succeed in their efforts of defending their title. The winner of this year tournament is RST Curacao who where applauded by everyone for their creativeness, team playing capabilities and general skills.


Main sponsor Insel air made this trip possible by offering Telstar reduced airfares to Curacao while co-sponsors Telem group, Nagico, Funmiles and Sunset beach bar took care of an excellent professional representation of the Telstar players.


Chairman of FC Telstar, Mr. Joel Pinas, called this trip "a great success". "Participation at international tournaments is a great learning curve for the players, an experience that improves the overall quality of soccer in St. Maarten and we are already seeing the benefits". The trip was a ‘life time experience’ and chairman Mr. Pinas announced that the next tournament will be held in St. Maarten hosted by FC Telstar.
