St John’s, Antigua – The West Indies Cricket Board’s Event Management Internship Programme has commenced with the first intake of two interns.

"We are delighted to have this programme up and running and are pleased with the quality of the three candidates we have selected," WICB Events Manager Cindy McLean said.

"The programme will benefit WICB in assisting us in delivering higher quality experiences for cricket fans but it will also expand the knowledge of interns in all the various areas of event management," McLean added.

"It is a very good initiative put on in an attempt to bring the regional boards and WICB closer together and to ensure cricket related events are successfully held," said Reifer Jr.

"I see this as a great opportunity in terms of my professional development as well as gaining valuable working experience in a world renowned organization," Reifer Jr added.

Serrette also commented: "This internship programme is an excellent initiative to improve the human resources capacity of Territorial Boards I think augurs well for the future because it is clear WICB understands the business of sports and the manner in which it should be treated."

The internship programme is aimed at building the event management capacity in the Caribbean by facilitating active partnership between the Event Management Unit of the WICB and West Indies cricket host venues (the various countries where international and regional cricket are hosted).

The internship programme is administered through a partnership with the various host cricket boards around the region and is funded, in its entirety, by the WICB. The programme will run for 4 to 6 months and the interns have arrived in Antigua for a two week initiation period.

The interns will experience all functions of event management including event planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
