-Malcolm returned; Wilson & Brathwaite appointed 3rd Umpires
St John’s, Antigua – The International Cricket Council has approved the West Indies Cricket Board’s recommendations for the Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires.
Veteran Jamaican umpire Norman Malcolm has been re-appointed while Trinidadian Peter Nero has been appointed to the panel for the first time.
Joel Wilson – also from Trinidad – and Barbadian Gregory Brathwaite have been appointed 3rd Umpires on the Emirates International Panel.
Emirates International Panel members stand in One-Day International matches in their home country, as well as assisting the Emirates Elite Panel at peak times in the cricket calendar when they can be appointed to overseas ODI and Test matches.
The Emirates International Panel of ICC Umpires comprises two officials nominated from each of the ten Test playing cricket boards. In the previous cycle Malcolm and Guyanese Clyde Duncan were on the Emirates International Panel along with Vincentian Goaland Greaves and Antiguan Clancy Mack who both served as 3rd Umpires.
The WICB has formally thanked Duncan, Greaves and Mack for their services on the International Panel and discussions are ongoing as to how they can contribute to the development of umpiring in the West Indies.
Additionally Wilson and Brathwaite will make significant strides in their careers when they travel to Bangladesh and England respectively to officiate in First Class matches.
The initiative is part of the WICB Umpire Exchange Programme with the English and Wales Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
English Umpire Richard Illingworth officiated in three matches of the ongoing WICB Regional 4 Day Tournament and Bangladeshi umpire Sharfuddoula Shahid will officiate in two matches following his current assignment between Trinidad and Tobago and the Leeward Islands at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Wilson will leave the Caribbean for Bangladesh on March 16 and return on April 8. Brathwaite is slated to travel to England on April 30 and return on May 28.
Wilson will officiate in three First Class matches while Brathwaite will stand in a Twenty20 contest and four First Class matches.
