On Wednesday night the 2010 SIMVA Volleyball Competition continued with volleyball action in the presence of more than 60 volleyball fans, where Super Six met Guess Who? in the women’s division and the Reptiles played United in the men’s division.
In the women’s match Guess who prevailed over Super Six by winning the first two sets easily 25-15 and 25-12 with an offense led by # 4 Carlyn Bergen and # 7 Cindy Rake. The setter # 2 Audrey Gil distributed the sets masterfully between the two main attackers who executed the kills with meticulous action. In the third set Super Six changd their line and added the Skeete sisters to the line up which resulted in Super Six jumping to an 8 to 3 lead at the first technical time out in the third set. But it was not to be, # 1 Veronique Berthelot of Guess who? , who was quiet in the first two sets came alive and executed kill after kill to get her team back in the game and to ultimately win the third set 25 to 20 and win tey match 3 sets to zero.
In the second match of the night the fans were treated to a fantastic volleyball show where United remained undefeated by winning 3 stes to 2 from the Reptiles. the crowd grew alive and had the auditoriom rocking while enjoying the show put on by the two men teams.
The young guns of United came out blasting in highly competitive match while the Reptiles would not bow down and answered in kind. Captain Riegmar Valies # 2 of United together with # 5 Gary King led the attack with great set selection of the setter # 1 Nick Henrietta. Great blocking action by Romiscio Lake helped tremendously in keeping the hitters of Reptiles at bay. On the other side it was Rotilio richardson # 4 and # 3 Captain Paul Quellery who were the main attackers to record kill after kill in a losing battle. Each set was fought point for point with none of the teams wanting to give the other one the edge. United drew first blood by winning the opening set 27-25. The second set was won in great fashion by after picking up a lead of two point and holding off the United boys till the end with a score of 25-20. In the third set it was United who got a lead of two and held on to win 25 – 18. Reptiles won the fourth set 25 – 22 after a see saw battle that the lead exchanging sides continously.In the tie breaker United showed its youthful supremacy by winning convincingly 15-10.
Volleyball action continues on Saturday with Go For It women playing against United and Go For It men playing the Babylons. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the L. B. Scot Sports Auditorium.
