Minister Geerlings says civil servants the foundation of Sint Maarten’s democracy as 11 take the oath

On Friday September 27, 11 civil servants from the Ministry of Finance took the Civil Servants Oath formalizing their civil service status.

During a brief ceremony on Friday, Minister of Finance Hon. Perry Geerlings, described the oath taking as having reached a milestone.

In his congratulatory message, Minister Geerlings said: “Several of you have been waiting a number of years for this moment.  I am a civil servant as well and I went through this same process.  When I received my process verbal, I had it framed.

“I am really proud to be a civil servant.  Each one of you are a leader within the civil service.  I, as a Minister cannot do the job without your input.

“Taking the oath means that you uphold the laws of country Sint Maarten. You are here to serve the people. We together work to build a highly efficient and effective Civil Service, for today and for the future.

“Be very conscious of the function that you have.  Politicians cannot do their job without you. You are the foundation of the Sint Maarten democracy.  Every civil servant must remain true to the core values of impartiality, objectivity, integrity and honesty.

“Congratulations on having reached this point.  Thank you very much for working with me during my tenure as Minister.  By working together Sint Maarten will shine,” Minister of Finance Hon. Perry Geerlings told civil servants on Friday.
