For the first time in history, St. Martiner Shemar Deion Bute has been drafted to a Division 1 school. Bute, a graduate of Tallahassee Community College will be attending Connecticut Central State University(CCSU) in the Fall of 2017. He currently plays center but will be a forward at CCSU. Bute is a graduate of St. Maarten Academy and was awarded Athlete of the Year.
Bute is a second-year participant on Tallahassee Community College men’s basketball team. After attending TCC for a year, he earned a spot on the Eagles’ 2015-16 roster and promptly averaged 7.6 points and 5.6 rebounds in 31 games, good for a spot on the Coaches’ All-Panhandle Conference Second-team. He was also named to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team after helping the Eagles to the tournament championship game. The Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport met with Bute where he discussed his current academic position as well as his professional aspirations. Minister Jacobs expressed her excitement for Bute and wished him the best in all his future endeavors. She also ensured that the Ministry will be willing to support Bute in any way possible.
