Zürich-The executive board of the Sint Maarten Soccer Association (SMSA), represented by President Sudesh Singh and General Secretary Danaë Daal, traveled to Switzerland on Wednesday to take part in the CONCACAF and FIFA Congresses held on Thursday the 25th and Friday the 26th of February 2016. The CONCACAF Extraordinary Congress took place on the Thursday and members voted on reforms, including revisions to the CONCACAF’s statutes. The meeting was successful and the new revised Statutes were approved by the members.
On Friday the 26th Sint Maarten will also be present for the FIFA Extraordinary Congress. During this Congress, members of FIFA will also vote on the new draft FIFA Statutes, which include essential principles of the proposed reforms that will strengthen how international Football is governed. Also during this highly publicized event a new FIFA President will be elected. Currently Sint Maarten is only a member of CONCACAF and not of FIFA. One of the main goals of the SMSA is to initiate this process and apply for membership.
