Senior citizens 60+ are invited to the Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD) 2015 event that will take place on Saturday, September 19 at the White & Yellow Cross in St. John’s Estate.
September 19 will be a fun day of activities for the country’s seniors who are 60+.
The Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department in the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour, the While and Yellow Cross Foundation (WYCF), and the Windward Islands Physical Therapy Association (WIPTA), are organizing the activities for Saturday which will allow the nation’s seniors to do some form of exercise that will be good for their health and is held under the theme “Age Active…U 2 Can Move!”
Busses will be transporting seniors who would like to attend the day’s activities.
Two coaster busses will be used. One will be departing from SOL Gas Station, Cole Bay (Tackling location) at 8.15AM and the other bus will be departing from Belvedere at 8.00AM.
The 8.15AM bus would drive from SOL to Le Grand Marche (Bush Road location) and then to White and Yellow Cross (WYC) in St. John’s Estate. The 8.00AM bus would drive from Belvedere to Kentucky Fried Chicken in Philipsburg (by the Clem Labega Square) and then on to Le Grand Marche (Bush Road location) before traveling to WYC at St. John’s Estate.
The reversed routes would be done at 11.30AM, after the event ends.
Saturday, September 19 starts off with an opening address by the Minister of Public Health at 9.30AM.
Words of welcome will be delivered by the coordinators of the day representing their respective organizations, CPS, WYC and WIPTA at 9.40AM.
The activities for the day for seniors kick off at 9.50AM. At 11.20AM goodie bags are distributed to all participants and the event comes to an end.
The activities include a Zumba class; Moving with live music; Bocce game in the garden; Obstacle course; Tai Chi class; and testing by a therapist.
For WYC residential clients, there will be a “snoezelen,” multisensory activity.
