Training “rescuing trapped elevator passengers”

Twelve firefighters of the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Department (BKCN) section Bonaire, Friday 10th of July followed the training “rescuing trapped elevator passengers”. The training consisted of a theoretical and a practical part. The firefighters brought the theory into practice in the police station Playa and near Playa Lechi residence. The training was carried out in collaboration with ‘ Elevator Institute-Solutions.

One of the tasks of the firefighters is the rescuing of people. Similarly, freeing people trapped in an elevator. These kinds of cases are not common in Caribbean Netherlands. But given the fact that more and more buildings have elevators it has become a matter of concern. According to one of the large elevator suppliers, there are more than 15 elevators on Bonaire. It is expected that this number will continue to grow.

E-learning
Via e-learning students can do the theory online. The advantage of this way of training is that the student can choose when he or she wants to follow the theory part of the training. It takes an average of 2.5 hours to do this theoretical part. Each student receives from the elevator Institute a user name and login code to log on to the website. Once the theory part has been completed, it is concluded with an online theory exam, which has high standards. To achieve the theoretical part, the student must have at least 80% of the questions right. After completing this exam, the practical training follows. For the practical part, the student should put into practice the acquired knowledge. The students have to practice the rescuing operations on the two most common types of elevators Traction (police station Playa) and hydraulic (Playa Lechi residence).
With this training, the certified staff can carry out their work more efficient and secure, also in the field of elevator.
