Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake on Monday visited a road paving project in the residential district of St. Peters.
The secondary roads that are scheduled to be paved are Guavaberry, Marigot Hill and Sugar Apple Road.
“The work is progressing and local sub-contractors are involved in the work. Windward Roads is the main contractor who won the public tender.
“It’s a principle for me that local contractors also get part of the work. They have bills to pay and families to feed. They can do the job once given the opportunity.
“After the work is completed in St. Peters, the next district is Cape Bay followed by other districts. The road paving improves the quality of life in our residents in the neighborhood. Paved roads mean less dust, sidewalks, streetlights and drainage for water,” Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Monday.
Minister Lake added that: “The residents were pleased with the works where one said it was a blessing since Sugar Apple Road wasn’t paved in 30-years.
“Marigot Hill Road is a historic road and part of our national heritage. It is one of the first roads in the country connecting the South side with the North side of the island.
“My approach during my tenure as minister for the past 16-months has been hands-on. Once the residents in the neighborhood are happy I am happy. The project is achieving two things, district infrastructure improvement and improvement in the quality of life,” Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Monday.
Guavaberry Road will also be paved at a later stage due to budgetary restraints.
