Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake says his ministry is lending support for the repair and upgrading of burial sites throughout the country.
Ministry VROMI has embarked upon a project to repair cemeteries. Work has already been carried out at the cemetery in Cul de Sac. Walls are also being constructed.
The road has been upgraded making it easier for families and others to visit the cemetery in a safe manner without having to worry about falling and getting injured.
99 vaults are to be constructed at the Cul de Sac cemetery, after the Minister of VROMI signed off on the advice recently.
Work will also commence soon at the Methodist Church cemetery.
“It is very important for families visiting their love ones last resting place to be able to do so in a safe manner. Also when people are attending a funeral and go for the internment, the cemetery should be safe where persons don’t get injured because the road or pathways are not maintained.
“There are dilapidated graves and those in disrepair. There is also overgrown grass and bush. I would encourage families to upgrade the aforementioned of their deceased,” Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Wednesday.
