Nature Foundation Researches Environmental Conditions of Both Great Salt Pond and Tilapia in order to determine reasons for fish die-off events

The St. Maarten Nature Foundation has over the last several days been conducting wide-scale research into the cause of last week’s massive fish die-off that has affected only the Tilapia population in the Great Salt Pond. Staff of the Nature Foundation tested the water quality of the Great Salt Pond before and after the Fish-Die off and have been dissecting a specimen from last week as well as a specimen caught while still alive this week.

The Report which was requested of the Nature Foundation by Vromi Minister the Hon. Maurice Lake and Member of Parliament the Hon. Theo Heyliger is hoped to be submitted by the end of this week. Skin samples will also be delivered to the Ministry of Public Health for analysis and samples will also be sent by the Nature Foundation to the University of the West Indies for separate analysis.
