The Philipsburg Jubilee Library (PJL) in collaboration with Rotary Club of St. Martin Sunrise will be hosting an E-Reading workshop for students and parents, through the "Readers are Leaders" program, on Thursday, October 3, at 6pm.
The major goals of this free, E-reading workshop are for participants to become aware of the e-book services the library offers and to promote reading through technological devices such as; E- Readers, smart phones, tablets, and computers.
The "Readers are Leaders" reading program was started by the Philipsburg Jubilee Library and Rotary Club Sunrise in March 2010. As part of the program, the teenagers run their own book club. The aim of "Readers are Leaders" is to turn St. Maarten’s teenagers into avid readers. High school students are challenged to read at least two books per month.
Thursday’s E-Reading workshop will be conducted by library staff members: Francia Housen, Circulation Head and Assistant System Administrator and Annelies Starreveld, Librarian. Both Housen and Starreveld recently completed their exams after conducting a two-week, intensive Media Coach Training through the Division of Educational Innovations (DEI), which was carried out by the National Academy for Media and Society, stationed in the Netherlands.
