Minister of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake is reminding stakeholders to come out to the second public consultation related to the drafting of development plans for Dutch Quarter and Middle Region on Thursday, August 22.
The public consultation will be held at the Belvedere Community Center in Low Estate Road, Belvedere August 22 at 7.00pm. The first public meeting was held in November 2012.
The draft development plan focusses on such areas as traffic (roads and other infrastructure), tourism (recreation), industry (commercial, industrial), residential (housing, public space and facilities), nature (water, landscape and ecology) and culture (heritage and archaeology).
The process of the preparation of zoning plans in the format of public consultations is cardinal for the preparation of the aforementioned that meet the needs and expectations of the community of Sint Maarten, and specifically those of the important stakeholders such as the neighborhood community councils, home owners associations and other entities that serve a role in voicing the concerns of residents within the neighborhoods.
"This is a follow-up public consultation and the input of the community is considered paramount in this process and in order for the right choices to be made. The people have to have a say by giving their views with respect to the spatial development of the country," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Tuesday.
The aforementioned plans will guide the future spatial development of the country where it relates to government and private land.
The town hall meeting process is part of process of drafting of development plans/ "zoning plans" for country Sint Maarten which was initially started back in the first quarter of 2012 under former Minister of VROMI Theo Heyliger.
