On Wednesday morning Contractor MNO Vervat connected several apartments to the Middle Region main sewer line along the main road. Sewage water use to run on the public road from several apartments and is now a thing of the past.
Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake is very pleased that the sewage situation has been resolved.
"The running of raw sewage on the public road was a nuisance for residents in the past. Nothing was done to help the Middle Region people for an entire year. It was also not good for tourists who would also drive through the neighborhood while scouting the island.
"The sewage running on the public road was a matter discussed in a meeting with the Middle Region Community Council (MRCC), as they brought this and other issues of concern to my attention back in early July.
"A promise made is a promise kept. I took a tour of the area early July and progress has been made. There are other issues to be dealt with and doing that is part of my action plan. My approach is back to basics and continuing to improve the quality of life of our people," Minister Maurice Lake said on Wednesday.
Other issues discussed with the Minister by MRCC back in early July was overflowing garbage bins, malfunctioning street lights, and exposed cable lines by the various utility companies.
"The Ministry of VROMI is busy discussing with the waste collection companies to work out a plan to address issues of concern. I am looking forward to a plan that addresses overflowing garbage bins which was one of the issues," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Wednesday in an update.
Minister Lake indicated that the community of Middle Region has seen a great transformation with the infrastructure upgrade that began in the year 2011 under former Minister of VROMI Theo Heyliger, with the implementation of a new concrete road, drainage system and installation of sewer lines of which were the initial kick of rehabilitating the neighborhood.
