Island Hoops has become the latest recipient of a donation made by Seven Seas Water (St. Maarten).
The donation was made over the weekend by Seven Seas Water operations manager, Lester Bryan.
Accepting the donation was Paul Bell, founder and head coach of Island Hoops, who just recently established the foundation, thus realizing a dream of seven years.
Seven Seas Water decided on granting Island Hoops a donation to facilitate a summer basketball camp after its operations manager praised the level of professionalism and knowledge of the sport being shared by the coach with young participants.
Bell, who is a youth basketball coach recently returned home to St. Maarten after nearly a decade abroad. In that time span, he trained elite youth players at UBALL (Utrecht Basketball) in the Netherlands from 2007 to 2009 and served as a team manager with the Dutch National Basketball program, among others.
Both operations manager Bryan and Seven Seas Water managing director Franklyn Richards say that the company supports initiatives benefitting youth development and that competitive and organized sport is among endeavors it would encourage and support within that framework.
"We are happy to make a donation to Island Hoops, particularly in recognition of its work with basketball enthusiasts between the ages of 12 and 18, future basketball projects for youth between the ages of 9 and 18 and programs targeting teenagers between the ages of 14 to18", say Seven Seas Water officials.
