Following a meeting between the managing director of Princess Juliana International Airport, SXM, Ms. Regina LaBega and Air France/KLM representative, Mr. Max Smits Friday, July 19, 2013, KLM will look into the possibility of filling the gap that would be left when Air France reduces its number of flights to SXM during the low season.
The issue was tabled by Ms. LaBega who requested that KLM fill this vacuum to ensure a daily transatlantic flight to Europe from the island. Smits said the reduction bore a similarity with flights operating to CUBA and agreed to look into the request to ensure a daily flight during the low season to SXM.
Smits further elaborated on the booking classes, yield management and expressed his concern with regards to the imbalance in promotions for Air France/KLM on St. Maarten/Saint Martin. He said he will try to ensure a dual promotion from both halves of the island.
According to Smits, KLM is encouraging e-ticketing which is now operational in Curacao and Bonaire. He further elaborated on Aruba’s ongoing efforts to implement European pre-clearance at their station.
The Air France/KLM representative also disclosed that KLM is to introduce a new business class seating on its B747 equipment. He also said the airline will soon receive new EMBRAER aircrafts, 3 years earlier than expected.
"The meeting was very productive and we’re looking forward to some concrete follow up that would yield mutually beneficial results," said LaBega.
