The St. Maarten Nature Foundation and the Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation recently hosted world renowned Wildlife Documentary film maker and National Geographic Freelance Photographer Mauricio Handler on St. Maarten as part of his travels documenting Natural History and the Environment in the Dutch Caribbean.

Mauricio Handler is a professional marine photojournalist, natural history filmmaker and expedition leader who for many years formed a part of the premier underwater photography team at National Geographic Magazine. He has documented life, landscapes and people living close to all bodies of water all over the world. Mauricio Handler is now producing natural history documentaries. He works with Ultra High Definition 4K footage, which has a quality four times that of regular HD.
Mr. Handler spent time with representatives of both the Nature Foundation and the Emilio Wilson Estate Foundation documenting natural landscapes both above and below the sea. "St. Maarten is a beautiful island but has considerable issues especially on the terrestrial side of things. The island urgently needs a Land Park and needs to have Mullet Pond as an important Fish Nursery fully protected. I also had the opportunity to dive in the Man of War Shoal Marine Protected Area and was pleasantly surprised at the health of the reefs and the amount of fish life; which is unique for the Caribbean," commented Mr. Handler.
Mr. Handler’s accommodation was provided through the kind support of the SHTA and Sonesta Great Bay Hotel. Mr. Handler will travel to the islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao next.
