YDP Bartender Mix-Off Competition to be held this Friday

Partners with Divi Little Bay Resort to host the event.

The Youth Development Program in collaboration with Divi Little Bay Resort is hosting its annual Bartender Mix Off competition this Friday June 7th 2013 from 3 pm to 6 pm at the upper pool side at the Divi Little Bay Resort.

Five aspiring bartenders/restaurant servers will compete in a friendly competition which will showcase their bartending and restaurant serving skills. The competition is divided in two segments. The first segment is the formal restaurant setting section in which students will have to set up a formal dining setting in maximum four minutes. This year, the students will also be judged on how they can break down the formal dining setting in maximum 4 minutes. The second segment of the show is the bartending section where students will have to create two of their own drinks (maximum 5 minutes each) which will be judged on creativity, taste and presentation. Each participant will be required to create and uniquely name their two drinks.

The five aspiring bartenders who will be competing in the bartender mix off are Claudine Touissaint, Lisa Ernest, Jericha Matilda, Valon Joseph and Juan Marte Reyes. The drink ingredients that will be used for the bartending section is sponsored by International Liquors and Tobacco Trading N.V. The judge panel will consist of representatives from Divi Little Bay Resort, International Liquors and Plantation Restaurant.

St. Maarten Youth Development Program is a second chance educational program that aims to train youngsters between the ages of 18 and 24 years who were unable to complete secondary education. The goal of the program is to provide these youngsters with start qualifications so that they can enter the labor market or further their education at the SBO/ASVE. The program is executed by the Division of Educational Innovations (DEI) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Affairs and is fully funded by Usona.
