BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (CUOPM) – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Friday that the government of St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is stable and functioning normally.
Adrienne Cheasty, the IMF Deputy Director at the Western Hemisphere Department refusing to be drawn into a domestic political matter made it absolutely clear to WINNFM’s Andre Huie at a Press Conference in Washington that the government operations in Basseterre "are continuing."
"We will not comment on the political situation and what I can say is that we see government operations continuing and that’s a good thing, but it would be nice to have a resolution."
Prime Minister Douglas is on the record as saying the matter of the No Confidence Motion would be heard.
However this is not now immediately possible as the opposition in the National Assembly has taken the matter to the High Court, which ruling is likely to be appealed to the Eastern Caribbean Court of Appeal and up to the Privy Council in London.
