Point Blanche Prison and Border Control Discussed
The Honorable Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams chaired the Ministerial Consultation between herself, the visiting Minister of Interior and Kingdom Relations for the Netherlands Liesbeth Spies and the Minister of Justice Roland Duncan.
During the meeting various items were discussed with regards to Justice on St. Maarten, including the cooperation in Justice related matters between the Netherlands and St. Maarten, the financial mandates of the various departments which fall under the Ministry of Justice, the issues related to the Point Blanche Prison and the housing of prisoners, the cooperation between St. Maarten and the various Law Enforcement branches within in the Kingdom, and Border Control and what is currently being worked on in this regard.
Further consultations were also held with separately with the Council of Ministers on various items and separately with Minister of Finance Roland Tuitt regarding financial matters and a joint visit was also paid by the Honorable Prime Minister, the Minister of Education Sylveria Jacobs and Minister Spies to the Hillside Christian and Vocational Tertiary School currently being constructed in Cay Hill. Minister Spies will end her official visit with a visit to the Police.
Minister Spies, currently on island as part of a working visit, also held an early morning consultation with the Prime Minister were a number of items were discussed related to various matters on Kingdom Relations between St. Maarten and the Netherlands. Minister Spies will conclude her visit to St. Maarten tomorrow.
