Pond Island – The Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication
(TEATT), the Honorable Grisha Heyliger-Marten, proudly congratulates Ms. Makayla
Cooks on being selected by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) for its
Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative.
Makayla’s selection follows a thorough local nomination process conducted by the
Ministry of TEATT. The Ministry received 25 applications, of which 13 candidates were
invited to participate in the pitch round. Six candidates appeared and presented before
the Selection Committee, after which three young women were nominated to the FCCA
for final consideration. Following its independent review, the FCCA selected Makayla for
this valuable opportunity.
Makayla distinguished herself through her creativity, confidence, communication skills
and demonstrated leadership potential. A recent HAVO graduate, she has gained
experience in tourism, event planning and marketing through her opportunities with the
Government of Sint Maarten BOP Program. She also serves as Public Relations Officer
with the Sint Maarten Alpha Leos and as a Group Leader and Social Media Manager
with Teen Times to name a few.
“This is an incredible opportunity for Makayla to learn from accomplished women within
the global cruise industry, expand her knowledge and strengthen her leadership and
professional skills. Makayla, you have already made Sint Maarten proud by stepping
forward, presenting yourself confidently and earning this selection. Embrace every
lesson, connection and experience that comes your way. This is not only recognition of
your potential; it is another important step in your growth and the bright future ahead of
you,” Minister Heyliger-Marten stated.
The Minister also commended all the young women who applied and participated in the
selection process, noting that their ambition, courage and willingness to pursue new
opportunities reflect the promising future of Sint Maarten’s young women.
The FCCA Young Women’s Mentorship Initiative provides participants with mentorship
from senior female leaders in the cruise industry, professional development, industry
exposure, networking opportunities and insight into careers across tourism and cruising.
