State Secretary Van der Burg on Working Visit to Statia
ORANJESTAD – State Secretary for Kingdom Relations and Digitalisation Eric van der Burg arrived on Sint Eustatius on the evening of Wednesday, April 8, for a two-day working visit. Upon arrival at F.D. Roosevelt Airport, he was welcomed by Island Governor Alida Francis.
The visit focuses on consultations with the local government and an inspection of key projects on the island. Van der Burg kicks off his programme with an introductory meeting with members of the Island Council and the Executive Council.
A packed programme of site visits
The State Secretary has an intensive schedule, including visits to infrastructure and agricultural projects. Specific attention will go to the harbour, the cliff stabilisation project, and the ‘Made in Statia’ initiative.
He will also receive updates on projects under the Statia Region Deal and preparations for Statia Day 2026.
Ceremony at Fort Oranje
A highlight of the visit is the official reception and handover ceremony at Fort Oranje, taking place on Thursday afternoon.
Through this working visit, Van der Burg aims to gain an up-to-date picture of the developments and challenges facing Sint Eustatius.
