Sint Maarten has registered to participate in ‘Gemeenten4GlobalGoals Flag day 2019’. The Gemeenten4GlobalGoals is an initiative of the VNG to, inter alia, bring awareness for the 2030 SDG agenda.
In participating in this event Sint Maarten along with all municipalities in The Netherlands will raise the SDGs flag on September 25th, 2019. This date is significant as it marks the 4th year of commitment to the 2030 SDG Agenda.
The hoisting of the SDGs flag will take place at the Government building on Pond Island at 8.00 am sharp and the program will last till 8.30 am. Other activities for that day will be: the launch of the first SDGs documentary.
The SDGs documentary depicts expressions by students from the Sint Dominic High school and the Charlotte Brookson Academy on the SDG themes. This documentary was made possible through the SDGs expressions project held in May 2019.
Following the launch of the documentary, certificates of appreciation will be awarded to SDG champions within our community. The SDG champions have been chosen based on their initiatives, actions and support for the 2030 SDG Agenda.
The organizing committee hereby invites the public to celebrate this 2030 Agenda on Wednesday, September 25, at 8.00 a.m. in front of the Government Building (at the Flag Poles).
The celebration and results of this SDGs Flag day in other municipalities of The Netherlands, in Belgium and other UN countries will be broadcasted, through the VNG Twitter Account.
