Ministry VROMI is currently accepting application forms pertaining The UNDP’s “Cash for Work, Community Cleanup Project” for persons who are challenged or unable of cleaning up hurricane debris (zink, fallen trees, collapsed walls etc.) from their yards and immediate surroundings independently.
The project, which commenced on March 1, focuses on assisting elderly, disabled and low-income persons. Thus far, 26 yards and key areas have been cleaned up in Middle Region, South Rewards, Cole Bay, St. Peters, Sucker Garden, Simpson Bay and Cape Bay. Clean up has also been executed at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, Simpson Bay Beach, and Great Bay Beach. Currently, cleanup is being conducted at the St Maarten zoo, and there are plans to tackle the Cul de Sac Cemetery.
Persons who apply must fit the criteria for eligibility. Persons must also describe the type of debris they wish to obtain assistance with removing. A site inspection will be conducted prior to approve the site, upon which a contractor will be assigned to execute the cleanup task.
Assistance is also being extended to foundations, schools, and other establishments of such nature.
The project is funded by the United Nations Development Programme, and facilitated Project Leaders, John schaminee and Candice Hazel of the Department of Infrastructure Management of VROMI and will conclude at the end of June 2018.
Application forms can be collected between the hours of 8:30 AM through 3:00PM at the VROMI yard located on Pond Island (behind Clean St. Maarten).
