Representing St. Maarten Academy as speaker for the St. Maarten Tourist Bureau’s (STB) Jr. Minister of Tourism Inter-Scholastic Panel Discussion of 2017 will be Pamela Potmis. The Academy team has selected Adventure Tourism for their presentation.
The researchers assisting in this project are: Domonique Fleming, Johan Agramonte, Diamonique Cocks, and Valecia Bradford, from the St. Maarten Academy.
All students are studying at the CAPE level and hope to gain an associate degree in tourism. Group discussions and research will be conducted in order to complete this project and to gather a more diverse range of information, the team stated.
“The topic of adventure tourism is the cultural and natural discovery through physically active and exciting activities; therefore the project to be proposed will be a diving tour.
“Reasons for this are because St. Maarten is an island surrounded by dives sites that can be a memorable touristic experience for individuals visiting.
“The dive sites can also serve as an advertisement for the island, as a means to generate more tourism. This can give the island great recognition and allow tourists to have an experience they cannot have anywhere else.
“The point is creating a truly unforgettable experience in this field appeals to a niche in tourism that targets visitors who crave activity. Thus, should therefore deepen the St. Maarten tourism product,” the team concludes.
The panel discussion will take place on Friday, May 19 at the Sonesta Great Bay Beach Hotel from 9.00am to 12.00pm.
The winner of the panel discussion will represent Sint Maarten at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Youth Tourism Congress in Grenada in October.
The participating schools are: Milton Peters College four sections (MPC), Sundial School, Methodist Agogic Centre, St. Dominic High School, St. Maarten Academy and Charlotte Brookson Academy.
