Section Economic Control monitoring Consumer Prices of Popular Consumable Goods

Section Economic Control Inspection Service of the Ministry Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT), will continue its program for the monitoring of the prices of popular consumables in local supermarkets and grocers.

The new approach is part of the 2017 Year Plan of the Ministry.

The objective is to expand the current monitoring to include more consumer items across a wider range of supermarkets and grocers on the island.

It is expected that with this new approach, the prices of close to 300 consumer items will be monitored.

Consumer items which include foodstuff and emergency items have been placed within one of eight theme areas, with one theme being surveyed during each reporting period.

The eight themes are: Diary; Canned goods; Groceries; Meat & Fish; Household and cleaning; Toiletries; Medical and sanitary; and baby food.

The results of these surveys will be published in the national media so that consumer awareness can be heightened.

During the month of April 2017, the theme for consideration was “Meats, meat products and Seafood” and surveys were conducted at 10 supermarket outlets.

For the month of May the theme for consideration is “Canned Goods”.

Section Economic Control is located at Cannegieter Street #23 next to Sister Borgia School in Philipsburg.
