The Fire Department which falls under the Ministry of General Affairs is organizing Fire Prevention Month from October 1st to November 1st.

The theme for 2015’s Fire Prevention Month is: ‘Smoke Detectors Save Lives.’

The Fire Department is doing this in collaboration with the Friends of the Island Government Fire Fighters.

Fire Prevention Month will be packed with activities to raise fire safety awareness within the communities.

The activities will include: Fire Safety Awareness Workshop for all primary school third graders; Installation of smoke detectors in houses.  Every week a different district in the country will be visited by fire fighters.

Lecture and workshop for architects and engineers on Fire Safety on October 21st.

And an Open House and Fire Safety Expo on November 1st from 9.00am to 5.00pm, with a walkthrough at the fire station, and demonstrations of firefighting skills.  Fire safety providers will be able to exhibit their products and services at the expo.

Fire Prevent Week is celebrated annually around the world in the month of October.  This year the Fire Department decided to extend the activities over a one-month period.
