Collective Prevention Service (CPS), a department of the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), is organizing a Summer Fit Camp from July 20-25 for children between the ages of 10 to 12, or cycle two students.
You will have to register by Friday, July 16 as space is limited. There is space for 25 children. The participants will be divided into groups of five with a group leader assigned to each. The camp will take place at the Caribbean International Academy CIA) in Cupecoy.
The goal of the Summer Fit Camp is to promote and educate about healthy eating habits and physical activities to combat the increase in obesity in the country.
Activities will be organized in a structured manner such as obstacle games (dance), sports (soccer), exercise (pool day), field trips (hiking), educational health sessions (gardening) and cooking demonstrations.
The children will also learn about healthy snacking (choosing snacks under 100 calories), limiting sugary foods and beverages), the importance of drinking water rather than juice.
The children will have fun while being exposed to different ways of being physically active, eating healthy portions, controlled meals and snacks; building team spirit, self-esteem and confidence while taking part in group camp activities.
There is no charge for a child participating in the Summer Fit Camp. If your child does not have any pre-existing medical conditions, but has an overweight concern, then this is the ideal opportunity for your child to receive information about healthy life styles.
For those who sign-up for the camp, an orientation meeting will take place on July 17 at 6.30pm at CPS Office in the Vineyard Building.
The orientation meeting will provide parents/guardians with information related to camp rules and regulations; meals and scheduled activities; pick-up and drop-off locations for the camp; and any additional information that parents/guardians may require.
Parents/guardians interested in signing up their child for the Summer Fit Camp should contact Camp Coordinator Swinda Richardson via email: sdrich79@gmail.com or swinda.richardson@sintmaartengov.org; or via Tel. 542-2078 or 542-3553.
