BUREAU TELECOM STAFF ATTENDS 4G-LTE TRAINING

Technical staff of Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten; Sidney de Weever, Angelo Moeslikan and Giovanni King, participated in a 5-day Telecom Boot Camp that was hosted by a USA based company ‘Celplan’ to extend their knowledge on the deployment and commercialization of future mobile networks (4G-LTE).

Celplan is a leading provider of radio frequency (RF) planning & optimization tools, engineering and training services to the wireless industry and hosted this ‘LTE Technologies, Network Design & Optimization Boot Camp’ in St. Maarten, to give technical staff in the telecom industry the practical knowledge and expertise to deploy and optimize 4G-LTE networks.

4G-LTE is a standard for wireless communication that allows high speed data on mobile devices and data terminals whereby end-users will be able to download data at much faster speeds, to make high quality video calls and to watch HD TV on mobile devices. It can also be utilized for a variety mobile applications including but not limited to e-health and e–learning.

According to Chief Operating Officer of BTP-SXM Mr. Giovanni King, ‘mobile broadband can contribute to the GDP growth, enhancement of productivity and potential increase of employment opportunities. As a result, the roll-out of Mobile Broadband networks is a key element in the overall development strategy of the island. The fact that UTS, Telem and BTP-SXM participated in this training, demonstrates our commitment in the strategic development of the Telecommunications/ ICT industry in St. Maarten’.
