Allthough they arrive by airplane instead of by landing craft, the 20 marines of the new marinedetachment Point Blanche will land on Sint Maarten on the 4th of march. 6 of their colleagues have been preparing their arrival for almost 6 months and now the detachment will finally be complete.
Just two weeks ago, the Dutch minister of Defense visited the detachment in the harbour at Pointe Blanche. She states that the arrival of the marines from the Netherland finalizes the birth of a new facility of the ministry of Defense in the Caribbean. "This detachment will guarantee the safety in this part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands."
The detachment will train and work on the islands of Sint Maarten, Statia and Saba.
