At a lighting ceremony in Cupecoy the Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams was joined by the Minister of VROMI the Honorable Maurice Lake in symbolically lighting the Cupecoy area with new street lights as part of a private public partnership initiative between Government and the AUC Medical School. At the ceremony Prime Minister Wescot-Williams highlighted the importance of private public partnerships in building St. Maarten step by step, block by block: "I remember that it was some months ago that the AUC Medical School expressed the desire to put up street lights at this important juncture in the Cupecoy area. This is not only important for the students but indeed for the residents of Cupecoy and everyone who uses these roads. It is important to realize that this is a benefit to the larger St. Maarten community and I would also like to encourage others within the community of St. Maarten to enter into such private public partnerships to do exactly that. It is only with the input of all of St. Maarten that we will get closer to the goal of a community that is strengthened and supported by these kinds of efforts. I know also that our Minister and Ministry of VROMI will be working with you as far as GEBE and the lights are concerned and I look forward to having these types of partnerships extend to the various districts to assisting the people of St. Maarten in building our country step by step and block by block," stated Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
